Getting Started
How do I create an account?
Download PingCircle from the App Store and sign in with Apple, Google, or email. You'll pick an avatar and confirm your age, then land straight on your first Check In. Adding people is optional and comes later.
Do I need friends to use PingCircle?
No. PingCircle is built to be complete on its own: a private way to check in with how you're doing, a journal that fills in over time, and patterns that emerge after a couple of weeks. Circles are an enhancement, never a requirement.
How do I add people to a circle?
From the Room tab, tap the "+" next to your circle pills. You can invite someone by matching an existing phone contact (read-only, one contact at a time) or by sharing a private invite link. There's no username search and no public directory: circles are invite-only.
Can I have multiple circles?
Yes. Create separate circles for family, work friends, a college group, or anyone else, each one private and independent. What you share in one circle never shows up in another.
Check Ins
What is a Check In?
The one action in PingCircle. Move the slider to say how you're doing, then optionally add a headline, a topic (like sleep, work, or family), and a short note. Two taps is a complete entry. Everything past the slider is optional.
Who sees my Check In?
By default, only you. Each Check In has its own "Share with" choice: keep it as "Just me," or share it with one of your circles. Sharing one entry never shares your history or your patterns, only that entry.
How often should I check in?
Whenever feels honest. There's no daily requirement and no penalty for a gap. If you'd like a nudge, you can turn on one reminder a day in Settings, and silence it in a single tap anytime.
Can I edit a Check In after saving it?
Not currently. You can always add a new Check In to reflect how things have changed. We're considering an edit option for a future update.
What happens to a Check In I share with a circle?
It appears in that circle's room for the people in it. Shared Check Ins expire from the room after 24 hours. Your own copy of the entry stays in your private Journal, permanently, unless you delete it yourself.
Circles
What's the minimum number of people in a circle?
There isn't one. A circle can be just you, "Just me," which is a fully complete way to use the app, or a handful of people you actually know.
How do people join a circle?
Only by a phone-contact match or a private invite link sent by someone already in the circle. There's no discovery feed, no public profile, and no way for a stranger to find or request to join a circle.
Can I leave or remove someone from a circle?
Yes, anytime, from the circle's settings. You can also block or report anyone on any social surface of the app, no explanation required.
Journal, Year & Patterns
What is the Journal?
Your private, permanent log of every Check In you've made, whether or not you shared it. It's never deleted automatically, never shown to anyone else, and yours to reread or export anytime.
What is Your Year?
A grid of every day you've checked in, colored by how you were doing. A gap in the grid just renders as a lighter cell, never as damage, and it never resets.
What are Patterns?
After you've logged enough entries (usually a couple of weeks' worth), PingCircle surfaces plain-language observations about your own data, by hour, day of week, or topic, for example "Sundays have tended to be easier than Mondays lately." Patterns never produce a score, a rating, or a diagnosis of any kind.
Privacy & Security
Is my Check In data safe?
Your feelings data lives on your device and in your own private HealthKit and iCloud storage. It's never sent to a PingCircle server, never included in analytics, and never used to train anything. Only what you explicitly choose to share with a circle ever leaves your device.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Settings → Privacy → Export Data for a copy of your Check Ins and Journal entries.
How do I delete my account?
Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm. This removes your circles and invites, scrubs your personal information from our systems, and cannot be undone, so export anything you want to keep first.
Do you sell my data?
Never. We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or profit, and we don't run ads. Read our full
Privacy Policy for details.
Account & Settings
How do I turn off notifications?
Settings → Notifications. Reminders are off by default, capped at one per day, and can be turned off entirely in one tap. There's no other notification type that pressures a response.
Can I use PingCircle on multiple devices?
Yes. Sign in with the same account on any iOS device and your circles sync automatically. Your private Journal syncs via your own iCloud account. Currently iOS-only.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't loading. What should I do?
- Check your internet connection
- Close and reopen the app
- Restart your device
- Make sure you're running the latest version (App Store → Updates)
- If still broken, email us at support@pingcircle.app
A friend's shared Check In isn't showing up in our circle.
Make sure:
- You're both members of the same circle
- They shared that Check In with the circle rather than keeping it as "Just me"
- It hasn't passed the 24-hour window shared Check Ins expire after
- Your app is updated and connected to the internet
